YWCA Delaware Thanks Board President Karen Smith for Eight Years of Dedicated Service
June 30, 2025
YWCA Delaware proudly recognizes and thanks Karen Smith, CRISC, CSM, CSPO, for her eight years of dedicated service, including three years as Board President, and three years as Vice President of Board Resource, as she concludes her term in leadership.
Karen joined the YWCA Delaware Board of Directors in 2017 and assumed the role of Board President in 2022. During her tenure, Karen provided steady guidance as YWCA Delaware staff navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, expanded advocacy efforts, and improved technology and data infrastructure.
Under her leadership, YWCA Delaware served more than 42,000 clients and successfully transitioned to new executive leadership, welcoming current CEO Melissa Gonville.
“During my time on this board, I have witnessed the positive impact YWCA Delaware has had on the community and I’ve built a sisterhood that will last a lifetime,” said Karen Smith. “If you ever considered sitting on a nonprofit board, do it. I’ve met phenomenal people, not just the women around the table, but the folks that we engage with across the state.”
While her term as President has concluded, Karen plans to remain an ambassador for YWCA Delaware and continue serving Delaware’s communities in new ways.
“Like many past board members, I know the passion for the mission doesn’t fade just because your term ends,” she added. “I look forward to continuing my community work and am excited to support Carolann Wicks as she leads YWCA Delaware forward.”
YWCA Delaware is deeply grateful for Karen’s dedication and lasting impact and proudly welcomes Carolann Wicks as Board President starting July 1, 2025.
