Get Support to Build Financial Stability — Free ALICE Orientation

ALICE refers to Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. It describes people who work hard but still struggle to afford basics like rent, food, childcare, healthcare, and transportation. In Delaware, too many families are locked out or struggling to stay in their homes. That reality is especially true for ALICE households.

Homeownership remains one of the most powerful ways to build and pass down wealth. Yet in Delaware, 12% of Delawareans live below the poverty line, an additional 39% of households fall into the ALICE population, earning too much to qualify for assistance, but not enough to afford basic necessities. As a result, many families are forced to choose between rent, food, medical care, and childcare. Without long-term financial support, families can cycle through eviction, foreclosure, and crisis again and again.

At YWCA Delaware, we’re redefining what ALICE means.

Through our ALICE Asset Building Program — Advancing Livelihoods, Income Capacity, and Economic Stability — we provide sustained financial coaching, credit and savings development, pre-purchase counseling, trusted lender partnerships, and post-purchase support.

By preparing families for the true cost of living and homeownership—from budgeting and credit to maintenance and long-term planning—we help participants move beyond crisis and toward financial independence.
