Economic Empowerment in Action: Building Financial Futures

Through homeownership education, career development workshops for adults and youth, credit and savings coaching, foreclosure prevention, and one-on-one HUD-certified financial counseling, YWCA Delaware is doing more to help individuals and families move from financial uncertainty to stability and confidence.

Today, more than half of Delaware households are considered cost burdened, meaning they spend over 30% on their income on housing. Within this group, one-third live below the poverty line, while many others are ALICE households (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) – families earning too much to qualify for assistance, but not enough to cover basic necessities. These pressures place women and families at increased risk of housing instability and homelessness.

Our approach is practical, personalized, and rooted in dignity. We meet people where they are, helping them strengthen credit, protect housing, and plan for futures that grounded in long-term financial security.
