Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
YWCA Delaware’ Racial & Social Justice program strives to help our communities to develop diversity, equity and inclusion perspectives and practices to break through institutional patterns that lead to injustice. Learn more below about how YWCA can help you to start building DE & I in your community today.
In today’s multicultural workforce it is more important than ever that organizations make Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) a priority. DE&I efforts create meaningful, systemic, change toward more equitable environments.
YWCA DE has developed “On the Menu” a series of DE&I sessions designed as 90 minute programs which can be adjusted to 60 minutes if there are time constraints for your organization. The four workshops can be done separately or as a full series covering the following topics:
CULTURAL IDENTITIES AND COMPETENCE
•Understand why culture is important
•Explore our own culture and identities
•Discover ways to become culturally competent
UNCONSCIOUS BIAS
•Understand and explore unconscious bias
•Recognize our own unconscious bias
•Learn ways to combat unconscious bias
INCLUSION
•Understand inclusion and why it’s important
•Examine stages of inclusion and reflect on what it means to us
•Discover ways to be more inclusive
MICROAGGRESSIONS
•Create awareness about micro aggressions and how often they occur
•Explore how micro aggressions can affect people
•Learn ways to reduce micro aggressions and how to respond

This program is based on the curriculum Transforming White Privilege: A 21st Century Leadership Capacity. (TWP) which is designed to help current and emerging leaders from a variety of sectors better identify, talk about and intervene to address white privilege and its consequences. It is a tool for white people to learn the history of policies that have led us to the current inequities in our system as well as their role in perpetuating the disparities, often unknowingly. This will be led by trained facilitators.

In an ever polarizing country, with the rise of hateful rhetoric and acts against communities of color, Muslims and Jews, and others who are not in the dominant white culture, YWCA is organizing diverse networks of community members to meet the immediate needs of the local community after incidents of injustice/hate. There are currently LEARNetworks operating in New Castle County, DE.
