  • Workshops are optional and free for MLK contestants. It is strongly recommended that contestants participate in at least one workshop to help them prepare for the contest.

  • COVID-19 is a serious and highly communicable disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and individuals with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 and variants exists in any public place where people are present. Although we ask all contestants, sponsors, and volunteers to observe certain precautions, there is no assurance of protection from exposure to COVID-19 and/or variants at any in-person MLK VOICE 4 YOUTH event. The risk of exposure to COVID-19 and variants is voluntarily assumed by all contestants, sponsors, parents, legal guardians, and volunteers. Those who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear a mask, and may be asked to present their vaccination card at in-person events. Contestants should also bring photo ID to all events. Note: Pandemic restrictions (e.g., face masks) are subject to change. By submitting this registration form, you agree to assume the risk of exposure to COVID 19 and variants at all in-person MLK VOICE 4 YOUTH events. By entering this contest, MLK VOICE 4 YOUTH, I have read and agree to abide by the contest rules outlined below. Message must be original and relate to the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It is not shared on social media until the contest has concluded. – Contest is open to high school students, grade 9 – 12, sponsored by a mentor, 21 years or older. – Presentations are to be approximately 5-minutes long. Presentations shorter than 4 1/2-minutes or longer than 5 1/2-minutes may be disqualified. – Semifinalists and finalists are required to perform their message live. Finalists only are required to submit an electronic copy (word doc.) of their presentation prior to their performance. Failure to do so, may disqualify him/her and the contestant with the next highest score will qualify to compete at the finals. Ownership of the copyright in any work submitted into the contest remains with the contestant. – Audio effects, accompaniment, costumes, and props are NOT permitted. – The decisions of the judges are final.
  • I represent that I am the parent or legal guardian of the minor named above, that I have the legal right and authority to consent on behalf of the minor, and that I agree to and approve the terms and conditions above and the minor’s agreement to the above terms and conditions. I grant each of YWCA Delaware, Christ Church Christiana Hundred, and Jane Rubini (Founder, MLK VOICE 4 YOUTH), for promotional, educational, and public relations purposes of the MLK VOICE 4 YOUTH contest, (1) a worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, create derivative works of, publicly display, distribute, and publicly perform (including but not limited to by means of digital audio transmission), wholly or in part, any work that I enter into the contest; and (2) permission to film, record, and photograph me (the “Recording”) at MLK VOICE 4 YOUTH-sponsored events, and to use such Recording, wholly or in part, including my name, likeness, appearance, and voice. I understand ownership of the copyright in any work that is submitted into the contest remains with the contestant.
