Domestic Violence

YWCA Delaware's Domestic Violence programs help women and their families live safe, healthy and productive lives without experiencing fear or abuse by an intimate partner by providing crisis support, emergency shelter, transitional housing and recovery services for adult victims of domestic violence, and violence prevention services for youth ages 11-17.

Components of our Adult Domestic Violence program delivered at Home-Life Management Center:

  • Specialized Case Management: Victims work intensively with Case Managers to identify underlying issues and individual needs, create a safety plan, make referrals to community resources and services, and establish and work toward specific personal goals.
  • Therapy: On-site individualized therapy is provided by an on-staff therapist to victims of domestic or sexual violence who reside at Home-Life Management Center.
  • Support Groups: Facilitated group counseling for women, and for women with children, to help build self-esteem and confidence, overcome fear, develop a sense of independence, and envision new possibilities.
  • Economic Empowerment Services: A strength of our domestic violence program is the in-house accessibility to financial coaching and housing identification and assistance to help victims work toward self-sufficiency and independence.
  • Outreach and Educational Workshops: Build awareness and knowledge of domestic abuse issues and the tools and resources available to keep individuals and those around them safe. Topics covered include myths about domestic violence, forms of abuse and warning signs.

Our Youth component concentrates on Domestic Violence prevention and is delivered in schools and community organizations throughout Delaware.

  • Outreach and Educational Workshops: Language and delivery are tailored for a teen audience with special emphasis given to more teen-specific warning signs such as escalated peer pressure, intimidation based on social status, isolation, bullying and how social media can be used as a coercion tool. Topics focus on teen dating violence, healthy relationships, self-esteem and independent thinking.
