Is Jim Crow alive in the USA and, in particular, Delaware? In this era of the Civil Rights Act, affirmative action and Obama in the White House, do we still live under a system of laws designed to keep the black man down? That is what Michelle Alexander charges in her explosive book, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness. Piecemeal reforms and timid civil rights activism, she argues, must give way to a sweeping transformation based on a recognition of the massive injustice against black America and on compassion for the stigmatized young African Americans.
